The Acting Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Perry Okudzeto is outraged at the conduct of one of the aspirants for the youth organizer position of the party who is challenging the party's decision not to have aspirants speak to delegates on the day of the up-coming delegates conference in Tamale.
Richard Nyamah says he has directed his lawyers to file an injunction on the conference if the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP fails to meet a-Thursday-deadline to overturn a decision not to allow contestants to address the conference before elections are conducted.
But, the party's Acting Director of Communications indicated that the issues raised by the aspirant had been dealt with in the past.
Speaking to Joy News, Monday, Mr. Okudzeto said the party held two different meetings with all the aspirants and the decisions taken were further discussed dispassionately by NEC.
According to him, NEC decided that due to time constraints in exhausting it will not be possible to have all 44 aspirants address delegates before voting commences.
Mr. Okudzeto further noted that Richard Nyamah raised the issue at the meeting held with all the aspirants and was given "satisfactory" response.
"On what basis is Nyamah going to court" he queried.
Meanwhile the elections committee of the party says the names of aspiring candidates will be mentioned at the conference grounds for acknowledgement.
Richard Nyamah had indicated that the decision by the party’s elections committee not to allow the contestants to address the delegates is “unacceptable and unconstitutional”.
He was further of the view that such arrangement will gravely affect the chances of most aspirants since that is the last chance of convincing the delegates for votes.
“The party has always allowed contestants to sell their messages to delegates even if it is for a minute; it has never happened not with my knowledge that a national delegates conference has been held without addresses by candidates; the explanation of time constraints does not wash and time will have to be made available by any means necessary”, Mr. Nyamah insisted.
The aspiring National Youth Organizer could not fathom why representatives of parties like the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and the People National Convention (PNC) would be allowed to give solidarity speeches and leave out the aspect of aspirants addressing delegates.
