The National Elections Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party is yet to decide whether or not to allow delegates from three constituencies in the Ashanti Region to vote in Saturday’s conference.
An Accra High Court yesterday placed an interlocutory injunction on Kumawu, Juabeng and Manhyia North delegates from voting in Saturday’s conference until a re-run of polling station and constituency elections there.
The regional party office plans to hold the re-run in the affected constituencies in fulfillment of the court’s order to enable delegates to be represented and vote at the pending delegates' conference in Tamale on April 12.
But the committee says it will soon make a decision on that.
Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, NPP Director of Elections, told Joy News Thursday, that once the re-run of the polling station and constituency exective elections were conducted in the three affected places, the court's order would have been obeyed and therefore, delegates from those constituencies will be allowed to take part in the conference.
Meanwhile, in the Manhyia North Constituency, delegates have gathered there all day to vote for new executives.
But Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor reported that the voting exercise failed to come on following a late notification given to officials of the Electoral Commission (EC)
Tempers flared-up as a result of the party's inability to conduct the elections.
The Manhyia North delegates have therefore vowed to place and injunction on the conference saying their regional executives could mot be voting at the delegates' conference, while the polling station and constituency executives disenfranchised.
