Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikoi South, Nana Akomea, is calling for reconciliation within the party after organizing a successful national delegates conference in Tamale over the weekend.

According to him, the victory of the newly elected national executives will be meaningless if the defeated aspirants are sidelined from major decision in the party.

Nana Akomea, who made the call on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, urged the current executives led by National Chairman, Paul Afoko, to reach out to the failed aspirants and to foster unity and lasting peace in the NPP.

He said the party’s chance of winning the 2016 general election is dependent on how well the current executives relate to the losers and past executives.

The former Okaikoi South MP further noted that the experiences and talents of all the aspirants, who lost in Tamale conference cannot be allowed to go waste.

Nana Akomea urged Paul Afoko and his team to as a matter of urgency to involve the other aspirants in their day-to-day activities in the interest of the party.

However, Deputy Information Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu said the election of Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong will deepen the cracks in the party.

He explained that the two gentlemen now Chairman and General Secretary respectively, perceived to belong to the Alan Kyerematen faction, pose a big threat to Nana Akufo-Addo’s chances of becoming flagbearer of the party.

The Deputy Information Minister, who was skeptical about the chances of the party's 2012 presidential candidate said it is now obvious the Akufo-Addo faction has lost control in the NPP.

Kwakye Ofosu therefore appealed for calm, adding that the situation is a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.
