Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, aka Sir John, the outspoken former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said he is down but not out of politics.
He told the Daily Graphic yesterday that “what happened at the National Delegates Conference of the party at the Tamale Sports Stadium last Sunday is a temporary set-back.”
Sir John, who garnered 1,990 votes at the party’s delegates conference, failed to secure his re-election bid as one of his challengers Mr Kwabena Agyepong, secured 2529 votes to beat him. The other challengers, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah and Capt. Nkrabeah Effah Dartey, had 179 and 41 votes respectively in that contest.
“I am not going to stop serving the NPP; the ultimate for all of us is to work hard to win political power and to bring good governance to the country,” he stated.
Sir John, who is cooling off at his hometown at Wonoo, near Kumawu in the Ashanti Region, told the Daily Graphic that he was
seeking the face of God.
“At the moment, I am in Wonoo, my hometown praying for God’s direction in my next line of action,” he stated.
Unflinching support
He pledged his unflinching support to the newly elected executive, particularly to Mr Agyepong, the newly elected General Secretary, to deliver victory for the NPP in the 2016 general election.
He told the Daily Graphic that “God has blessed Kwabena Agyepong with the position of chief scribe and I will support him to achieve his aim of giving NPP victory in 2016."
In his view, Mr Agyepong had a very good campaign and won the election fairly.
“He is now the chief scribe of the NPP. He is a new person on the position and will come along with his own unique style and strategies to accomplish his goal of winning political power for the NPP,” Sir John stated.
“I wish him well and will support his endeavours”,he concluded.
