Mr John K. Brimpong, the 2005 Obuasi Municipal Best Farmer, has appealed to the government to rehabilitate all silos in the country and build new ones in order to stock adequate food.
He said worldwide high food high prices and global warming were signals for the nation to stock food.
Mr Bimpong, who spoke to the GNA in an interview, said the silos could be used to take care of post harvest loses.
This can also enhance the school feeding programme because the programme could source supplies from the silos instead of relying on suppliers.
Mr Brimpong said more agriculture extension officers must be employed to augment the number of those already in service and that they must be strengthened through the provision of motor bikes so that they could reach more farmers.
Mr Brimpong said with the raining season, there was the need to improve feeder roads especially in the farming areas to enable vehicles to reach farm gates to transport food to the marketing centres.
