Aspiring flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Joe Ghartey says he has the magic wand to bring the party back to power.
According to him, the NPP at this point in time needs a unifier to bring together the supposed factions in the party to wrestle power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016.
Mr. Ghartey also Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan said “the NPP must for once look to the West for a flagbearer”.
Media reports had been speculating about the intention of Mr Ghartey to contest for the party's top job, but Mr. Ghartey confirmed his intentions on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday.
He said at age 52, “I am politically matured and experienced to lead the NPP in 2016".
The Essikado-Ketan MP added that he has paid his dues in the party and believes he has a greater chance of becoming the flagbearer.
The former Attorney General indicated that his intent is borne out of positive feedback from series of consultations with the party’s rank and file which he says has boosted his confidence to contest.
“If I think I don’t have a chance; I will not contest. Nothing comes easy buy my confidence comes from God” he told Ekosii Sen host, Kwadwo Asare Baffuor Acheampong.
Joe Ghartey said he has the right strategy to win political power for the NPP in 2016.
