The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged workers to remain committed to advancing the national interest, despite the current hardships facing the economy.
In a statement to commemorate May Day which falls on May 1, Kwabena Agyapong, General Secretary said, the opposition party acknowledges that "the current economic hardships has worsened the plight of our workers and has adversely affected our nation's development".
"Nevertheless, the NPP urges workers from the various sectors of the economy, especially organised labour to remain steadfast in the collective interest of our dear nation Ghana," the statement said.
The statement recalled:"During the NPP administration, various pragmatic policies geared towards making labour productive and comfortable, were pursued. These policies sought the greater good of the ordinary worker whilst improving the living standards of the less privileged."
"As we commemorate May Day, it is the hope of the New Patriotic Party that workers across the country will take stock of the past few years and work tirelessly towards achieving economic progress and strengthening our democracy. Such a commitment from the nation's workforce will build a prosperous Ghana."
