Deputy Information and Media Relations Minister, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu says the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be found guilty in the court of public opinion if it fails to attend the National Economic Forum slated for Tuesday, May 13 at Akosombo.

According to him, the “flimsy and untenable excuse” adduced for the boycott falls flat in the face.

Kwakye Ofosu, who is appalled by the conduct the opposition party said “the NPP persistently wants to be at the wrong side of history”.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii sen programme Monday, the Deputy Information Minister cited the party’s boycott of Valued Added Tax (VAT), the construction of the Tema motorway and the Akosombo dam under the erstwhile Rawlings and Nkrumah administrations to buttress his point.

“History will go against them [NPP] as a political party, which always boycotts every good event organized in the interest of the state”, he noted.

Kwakye Ofosu found it very intriguing the NPP’s boycott of the forum because some government spokespersons allegedly abuse its members when they proffer solutions to revive the ailing economy.

“The NPP cannot cite insults as a reason for the boycott when it has been voted 12 times as the most insulting political party in the country”.

Kwakye Ofosu  said the NPP's boycott could be politically suicidal if it fails to rescind its decision.

But in a rebuttal, former NPP Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South, Nana Akomea said the decision taken by the party is in the right direction.

He maintained that the four-day forum is a waste of tax payers monies because no new idea will come out of the forum to help solve the problems of the ailing economy.

The former Okaikoi South MP said the solution for what he described as a self-inflicted economic mess is known by government but has failed to act on it.

“We talk but do little; I think this forum will be another talk shop. What is needed now is action”, Akomea stressed.
