Staff of the Bank of Ghana are continuing their a sit-down strike, started on Monday following the dismissal of two of their colleagues.
Joy News sources say the Governor, Dr. Paul Acquah, is scheduled to meet the aggrieved workers today in an attempt to get them to resume work.
Mr Benjamin Duffuor, Chairman and Mr Frank Mensah, Secretary of the Bank of Ghana Senior Staff Association have been sacked since last Friday in what is alleged to be their instrumental roles to get staff of the bank unionised. They have since been denied entry into the Bank's premises.
Benjamin Duffuor was on Wednesday picked up by the Regional Police after he addressed a section of the workers demonstrating against their sacking.
The strike on Monday and Wednesday crippled business at the Bank, however Ms Esi Hammond, Public Relations Manager of the bank, is quoted by the Ghana News Agency as saying that contingency arrangements were in place to ensure that its operations were not disrupted.
She said the Bank's paramount interest was to avert any possible downturn that the strike could have on transactions at the Bank. She said as an essential service provider any disruption in operations would have negative consequences for the financial services sector and the economy as a whole.
"It is in this direction that BoG is doing all within its power in order not to bring hardships on the people," she said.
