As Ghana looks for ways to boost its exports, some players in the trade and financial sectors met last week to find new ways of improving the country’s exports to the European Union.
The meeting which was organised by the Ghana Export Promotion Council (GEPC) in collaboration with the centre for the promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) of Netherlands was aimed at equipping middle and senior management personnel of national, regional and sectoral Business Support Organisations (BSOs).
Facilitators of the programme who were Dutch, trained the participants so as to increase their knowledge of trade structures and business practices in EU markets as well as develop a better understanding of the techniques of matching Ghanaian exporters’ needs with the requirements of EU-markets.
The topics treated at the one-week programme included EU market characteristics, its trends and developments, market access requirements and sector export marketing plan.
Others were networking and strategic clustering, trade partner selection and financial aspects and payment terms.
One of the participants, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues during the closing ceremony, said they acquired a lot of knowledge especially about how financial service plays a crucial role in providing credits to exporters.
