A soap manufacturer, Issa Watra, 40, from Sampa in the Brong Ahafo Region is standing trial for pouring acid on another person.
The victim, Eighteen-year-old William Festus, is on admission at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital battling for dear life after the incident.
He had sought refuge in Watra’s shop after a misunderstanding that broke out among his friends while they played degenerated into a scuffle, but the 40-year-old soap manufacturer, who claimed he suspected Festus to be a thief, attacked him with the acid.
It was the groaning and screams for help that attracted other people to the scene who reported the matter to the police and took him to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi after first aid. He was later transferred to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital after his condition worsened.
When the case was brought before Justice William Boampong at the Sampa Magistrate Court, Watra pleaded guilty but asked the judge to have mercy on him claiming that he did not commit the offence on purpose.
But his Lordship Mr. Boampong has adjourned the case to a later date awaiting a report on the health status of Festus.
