The Ministry of Tourism and Diasporan Relations on Wednesday announced that Tourist Information Centres had been established in Accra for use by the public, especially tourists who would be visiting the country during the 50th anniversary celebrations.
Ms. Victoria Antwi Sarpong, Public Relations Officer at the Ministry, told the GNA in an interview that these centres were at the arrival hall of the Kotoka International Airport, Ring Road Central, Headquarters of the Ghana Tourist Board and the Regional Office of the Board situated at the Regional Coordinating Council as well as the front desk of the Ministry of Tourism and Disaporan Relations. She said tourists in the regions could also contact the regional offices of the Ghana Tourist Board for information about tourist sites, link roads and other tourist guides.
Ms Sarpong said tourists could purchase brochures, tourist maps and other souvenirs at these information centres.
She assured Ghanaians and tourists coming to Ghana that taxi drivers in the city had had training programmes by Vanguard Assurance Company to enhance their roles as first contacts with tourists. Ms Sarpong, however, expressed concern about the inability of most Ghanaians to read maps and called for introduction of map reading as part of curricula of schools.
