The incredible performance of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), over the past years, according to the 2008 Campaign Committee Chairman for Nana Akufo-Addo, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, will make it practically impossible for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), to match the NPP in the impending general elections.Describing the NDC attempt to win the December polls as "mission impossible," the former Tourism Minister charged the leadership of the party to rather save their cedis and other resources to buy treasury bills to enrich their coffers, for subsequent elections.He emphasised that the NDC presidential candidate, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, was going to have the greatest shock of his life after the December 7 elections and would, without any delay, quit partisan politics.Mr. Obetsebi made these observations, in an exclusive interview with The Chronicle, in Tamale, when contacted to make an assessment of the overall performance of the NPP government, within the last seven and a half years, and their chances in this year's elections.The former NPP National Campaign Chairman, who was full of praises for the Kufuor administration, enumerated some of the achievements of the NPP, with emphasis on human resource development, infrastructural development, rule of law, democracy, freedom of speech and good governance.He said that even the three Northern regions and Volta Region, that had consistently proven to be opposition strongholds, had been given the best of attention by the government. Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey was part of the Nana Akufo-Addo advance party to the Northern Region.On his arrival, the NPP Campaign Chairman embarked on a door-to-door campaign, in some of the NDC-dominated communities in Tamale, and also took over the airwaves to propagate the gospel according to Nana Akufo-Addo.The former Tourism Minister who reminded Ghanaians about the past traumas, atrocities, tortures, abuse of human rights, fears and intimidations under the P/NDC government, emphasized that the peace, democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law, being provided by the NPP government to comfort the souls of the past traumatized Ghanaians, had greatly brightened the chances of the NPP in the December polls.He was optimistic that the good people of this country would, unreservedly retain the NPP in power for Nana Akufo-Addo to continue the progress made by President Kufuor.According to him, with the current support being received from the majority of Ghanaians, the NPP would be capable of turning most NDC "World Banks" into "Rural Banks," come December.He therefore, advised the electorate to evaluate the NPP performance and vote massively to retain the elephant to enable them continue their good policies.Source: The Chronicle
