Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George has disclosed that MTN has slashed the price of its 100 Mbps unlimited fibre broadband package from GH¢987 to GH¢299 a month.

According to the Minister, the reduction forms part of broader engagements between government and telecommunications operators aimed at making digital connectivity more affordable for households and businesses.

Speaking on Monday, September 7, at the Government Accountability Series at the Jubilee House in Accra, Mr George said the reduction represented a cut of up to 70 per cent on MTN’s fibre broadband services.

He said MTN had also introduced new 300 Mbps and 500 Mbps broadband packages to cater for consumers and businesses with higher connectivity needs.

Mr George said the government’s intervention was driven by concerns over the cost of digital services and the need to ensure Ghanaians receive greater value from their spending.

“When Ghanaians told us that pay-television had become unaffordable, we did not simply issue a statement — we acted,” he said.

He said the Ministry had adopted a similar approach in the telecommunications sector, engaging directly with operators to secure better value for consumers.

“Ghanaian families and enterprises are today getting more data dramatically, on both their phones and their fixed lines, for less money than they paid a year ago,” Mr George added.
