Chiefs in the Ashanti Region have proposed to the Asantehene to confer an honorary title of the Ashanti Kingdom on President Kufuor, for his meritorious service as president of Ghana.
The chiefs made the proposal at a special durbar held at the Manhyia Palace on Tuesday.
Joy Fm correspondent Saed Ali Yakubu reported that the Otumfuo Osei Tutu agreed to the proposal, but said the president will be honoured at the right time.
If that time comes, President Kufuor will join former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan who was honoured with the title of Busumuru by the Asantehene for his outstanding performance in world affairs.
The Asantehene admonished Ghanaians to conduct the upcoming general elections in a peaceful, free and fair atmosphere devoid of violence.
The president used the opportunity to introduce the party’s flag bearer Nana Akufo-Addo to the people of Asanteman and thanked them for their unflinching support during his eight year stewardship.
He also appealed to all to retain the NPP in power to continue the good works.
