The Convention People's Party (CPP) has fielded parliamentary candidates in all the 39 constituencies in the Ashanti Region to boost its chances in the December presidential and parliamentary elections.
Mr Daniel Essien, the Regional Secretary of the Party, who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Tuesday, said unlike the previous elections where the CPP fielded only few candidates, it was fielding candidates in all the constituencies this time round, with the hope that it could at least win the targeted 15 seats.
He said among the constituencies that the CPP had targeted to capture seats included Kwadaso, Suame, Obuasi, Akrofuom, New Edubiase, Adansi-Asokwa, Amansie West, Ejisu-Juaben and Ejura-Sekyedumase among others.
Mr Essien, who is contesting the Kwadaso parliamentary seat in Kumasi, said the party has gained massive support in Ashanti in spite of the fact that the region was the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying everyday people especially the youth thronged to "our party offices to register as members".
He said the CPP will be a force to reckon with in this year's elections following its massive campaigns and understanding of its policies by the electorate at the grassroots.
