The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected Dr. Archibald Letsa as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Ho Central constituency. The 58-year-old Ho-based private medical practitioner was elected at an extraordinary delegates congress held at Ho, the Volta Regional capital on Tuesday. He polled 48 votes to beat Mr Seth D. Kpodo, a Hotelier and Colonel Ben Attakey (retd), who had nine and four votes, respectively, in absentia, in an election supervised by Mr Robert Atamah, Ho District Director of the Electoral Commission (EC). Dr. Archibald Letsa replaces Mr Walter Glalah who was billed to run on the NPP ticket but withdrew from the race citing personal reasons. Joy News’ Agbeko Ben Coffie reports the election of Dr. Letsa reposed confidence in the NPP who are poised to unseat the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency. The NDC has for years enjoyed monopoly of the Volta Region, but the NPP believed the jinx would be broken in the 2008 elections. He said the NPP was hopeful the popularity and personal contributions of their candidate to the health needs of the people in the constituency would be convincing enough to beat the NDC’s Capt. George Kofi Nfojoh (retd). Dr. Archibald Letsa said the constituency needs a candidate of his calibre to bring development for the people and asked them to vote for the NPP because it is the winning party. “I believe so much in the philosophy of the NPP. I don’t believe in hatred and I don’t believe in jealousy. I believe that when somebody is ahead of you, you must learn from him and also move ahead.” He criticised the “pull-him-down” attitude of some Ghanaians and also advised the constituents to eschew tribalism. “I don’t believe in tribalism, that is why my wife is from Prampram,” he noted. Mr Ken-Wuud Nuworsu, Volta Regional Chairman, asked members of the party to unite and campaign massively for the NPP to win the December polls.
