A prospective independent parliamentary candidate for Ho-central on Friday created a laughing scene at the Electoral Commission offices in Ho when after presenting his nomination papers demanded that government should pay the filing fees for him.
Steven Dzorkpata, Returning Officer gave the name of the prospective candidate as Amegashie Perry Alphonse ‘God-Is-Good’, 53, a Social Analyst from Ho.
‘God-Is-Good’, Mr Dzorkpata said, filled the forms with pencil and insisted that he (the Returning Officer) should prevail on the government to pay the GH¢500 filling fee.
Mr Dzorkpata said ‘God-Is Good’ claimed his efforts to cash 1000 US dollars savings bounced as a result of the “failure of the banking system”.
He said it took sometime to convince ‘God-Is Good’ to leave without confirmation of his nomination.
Five others including a woman were cleared to contest the parliamentary seat.
They are Captain George Nfodjoh, (rtd), 61, a media professional and the incumbent NDC Member of Parliament, Dr Archibald Letsa, 51, private medical practitioner of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Manfred Nuku-Dei, 52, Architect, Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Osei Moses Ernest Kwasi, 52, Teacher, Convention People’s Party (CPP), and Diana Kafui Nane, 38, Peoples National Convention (PNC), a hairdresser.
