Dr Edward Nasigrie Mahama, Presidential Candidate of People’s National Convention (PNC), on Saturday began a five-day campaign tour of Ashanti Region towards Election 2008.
Addressing separate rallies at Obuasi, Adansi Asokwa, Konongo, Ejisu, Asante Mampong, Nsuta, Effiduase, Juaben and Jacobu, Dr Mahama accused activists and supporters of New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) of creating tension through recent clashes among them in some parts of the country.
He said the development suggested that, the two political parties were eager to win power at all cost at the expense of the welfare and prevailing peace in the country.
Dr Mahama therefore, appealed to the electorate to reject NPP and NDC on December 7, before they plunged the country into chaos.
He pointed out that it was time they voted for the PNC which had promised to provide visionary leadership for the country.
“I assure Ghanaians that a PNC Government would provide an exemplary and visionary leadership to inculcate discipline into the citizenry to help curb corruption and indiscipline especially among government officials, “he said.
Dr Mahama announced that a PNC Government would establish a vibrant housing scheme to ensure the people had affordable accommodation to enhance their development.
“It is unfortunate that since Independence, Ghana is yet to institute a comprehensive housing policy to accommodate the growing population, “he added.
On education, Dr Mahama said it would be free at all levels from basic to tertiary, as it pertained during the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP) regime in the 1960’s, to train Ghanaians to acquire knowledge and skills to participate effectively in the country’s socio-economic development.
With regard to agriculture, Dr Mahama said PNC would institute a pension scheme for farmers to enable the aged benefit from their hard work and motivate the youth to take up agriculture as a profession.
