Yaw Amponsah, believed to be in his early 30’s, died while six others sustained various degrees of injuries at Sankore in Asunafo South District following a clash between supporters of New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Four people, Kwaku Okyere, Kwame Eric, Yaw Manso and Thomas Gyimah have been arrested and placed in police custody to help investigations.
A police source told Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Kwaku Okyere an activist of NPP had a confrontation with Kofi Asare, an NDC activist during which Asare
got injured.
It said this did not go down well with the NDC supporters and degenerated into sporadic shooting between supporters of the two political parties for some time and in the process Amponsah was shot and killed.
The six injured people have been admitted at Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
A house belonging to an NDC activist was reported to have been set ablaze by some unidentified persons.
As a result, Deputy Superintendent of Police Dennis Fiakpui, Kukuom District Police Commander, has called for re-enforcement to avoid escalation of violence.
