Four ballot boxes which were reported missing in the Volta Region have been found.
The boxes disappeared when they were being transported from the offices of the Electoral Commission in the Volta Region to Kpeve in the South Dayi constituency.
The commission’s regional office said the boxes which were last week thought to have vanished from a total of 48 boxes rather fell off the pick-up truck used to transport them.
The EC’s Volta Regional Director, Lawrencia Patapaa, said there is no cause for alarm as the boxes contained no electoral materials when they went missing.
According to her a district officer had collected the 48 boxes to be transported to South Dayi when four of them dropped off the vehicle which was carrying them.
She said reports later reached her office that two of the empty boxes had been found and were in the custody of an electoral officer at Sokode also in the Volta Region.
Madam Patapaa said the driver of a commercial vehicle which had been plying the same road on which the boxes were believed to have vanished, found the other two.
“The EC is doing all it can to ensure the elections are conducted peacefully,” she said.
