The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper West Region has commended voters in the region for their encouraging support for the party which enabled it to chalk modest gains in both last Sunday's presidential and parliamentary elections.
Briefing newsmen at Wa on Wednesday after the declaration of the presidential result by the Electoral Commissioner, the Regional Youth Organizer of the party, Mr Hafiz Bin Salih said their performance had clearly shown that the region was not the "world bank" of the National Democratic Congress.
Mr Bin Salih said the party's good performance was a clear demonstration of the voters' appreciation of the good work done by the NPP government especially in the provision of social amenities.
He said Nana Akufo-Addo was poised to win the run-off on December 28, 2008 and urged al to come out to vote for him (Nana Akufo Addo) to continue with the good work of President Kufuor.
On behalf of the Regional executives of the party, Mr Bin Salih also congratulated the presidential candidate for attaining the highest votes in the first round and expressed the hope that the second round of voting would be better.
The party increased its parliamentary seats in the region from one to three and also won about 40 per cent of the popular vote for Nana Addo during the elections.
