President John Agyekum Kufuor returned home from Abuja, where he attended the 35th ordinary session of the Authority of Heads of State and Governments of ECOWAS.
Speaking to journalists on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport Mr Adrew Awuni, the Press Secretary, said Ghana and Guinea-Bissau were commended for carrying out peaceful elections.
He said President Kufuor thanked his colleagues for their support and cooperation during his two-term of office as ECOWAS chairman and bid them farewell since the meeting would be his last as a president.
He said the meeting also examined a report on food, fuel and financial crises which was presented by Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas, President of the ECOWAS Commission.
Mr Awuni said it was also decided that Accra be made the headquarters of ECOWAS Energy Authority.
President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua of Nigerian was elected the new chairman of ECOWAS.
