The National Democratic Congress says it has uncovered plots by the ruling New Patriotic Party to put ex-president Rawlings under house arrest. “We have picked up intelligence information that during the last week of the campaign towards the run-off, former President Rawlings will be put under house arrest as a result of this alleged hit list,” Samuel Ofosu Ampofo National Organiser of the party told Joy News on Saturday. He was corroborating an earlier press statement he signed, in which he alleged the NPP was planning to rig the December 28 run-off with the assistance of some Electoral Commission officials. According to Mr. Ampofo, the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo met with some official of the Electoral Commission in the party’s guest house ostensibly to plan how to execute their rigging agenda. Asked how the party got the information, Mr. Ampofo insisted the NDC had been in power for many years and had its own way of accessing intelligence reports. He argued the NPP's Akufo-Addo cannot deny meeting the EC officials at his party's guest house. But Nana Ohene Ntow General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party said the accusations were a “pack of lies” by the NDC. He said the supposed meeting between the Nana Akufo-Addo and some EC officials was nothing but a fabrication. According to him, Nana Akufo-Addo was in the Eastern Region campaigning on December 18, the exact date he was alleged to have met with the EC officials in Accra. He challenged the media to get to the bottom of the allegation, adding it was disingenuous and mischievous on the part of the NDC to put out those blatant lies.
