The police say miscreants who temper with ballot boxes in the upcoming December 28 run-off will do so at the peril of their lives.According to DSP Kwesi Ofori Director of Police Public Relations, the security services are ready to take the toughest decisions to ensure a clean, fair and transparent election run-off.The police before the December 7 general elections warned it would gun down people who temper with ballot boxes, but appeared to have backed down after vehement criticisms from civil society groups.But with reports of snatching of ballot boxes in Akwatia, the police appear to have no other option than stick to the original plan.“We intend to protect the electoral officials, safeguard the ballot boxes, that is our main target, including the voters and by so doing we will make sure those who dare to come in and snatch ballot boxes will be dealt with according to our rules of engagement and it will be at their peril of their lives.” DSP Kwesi Ofori told Joy News’ Israel Laryea on Friday, at their final security briefing session in Accra. DSP Ofori advised the youth to refrain from what he termed “unholy acts” which could plunge the country into chaos.He said the police will on Sunday be a lot more vigilant and involved than they were on December 7.Personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons and Immigration Services and Ghana Army would later on Friday be deplored to the ten regions to begin preparations ahead of Sunday’s crucial election run-off.Story by Nathan Gadugah
