The First Lady Mrs Theresa Kufuor is an election observer today, Sunday, December 28.
Madam Kufuor is said to have presented herself as an independent observer in the Ayawaso West Central constituency in Airport Residential Area in Accra.
Mother Theresa as she is affectionately called played down suggestions that she is representing a particular political party.
“I only want to see a peaceful election,” she told reporters at her polling station.
Her new role comes after reports circulated in the media that the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings was a polling agent for the opposition National Democratic Congress at a polling station at Ridge during the December 7 election.
Mrs Rawlings is said to have waited at her polling station till the last ballot was counted.
Political observers have described the development as refreshing as it seeks to deepen Ghana’s fledgling democracy.
