The Member of Parliament (MP) for Jomoro, Samia Yaba Christina Nkrumah, has agreed to sit on the minority side of the House.
She had earlier Friday, during proceedings in Parliament, refused to sit on either side of the House.
Ms Nkrumah, daughter of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, founder of Ghana’s independence, contested the parliamentary elections in the Jomoro constituency on the ticket of the CPP, kicking National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Lee Ocran, from the seat.
By the House's Standing Orders members from the minor parties are expected to align with either the majority or minority parties in the process of composing committees.
However, Ms Nkrumah has since her election as MP, called for a change in the conventions so she could sit at a side other than the two to reflect her neutrality and independence.
In Parliament on Friday, Ms Nkrumah said, “I am in a difficult situation pending the revision or amendment to the standing orders in the House.”
“I’m urging the house to expedite a debate on the standing orders to allow me…the right to express my full and independent political expression in order to comply with the rules and regulations of the House.”
