In order to rid Accra of the filth that has engulfed the city, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) would on Saturday, January 31 embark on a massive cleanup campaign in all the sub-metros within the metropolis.
To this end the AMA is appealing to all citizens, hawkers, traders and organizations such as transport companies and unions whose activities contribute to waste generation in the city to ensure the success of the exercise.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by Mr Frank Asante, Head of Public Affairs Department, AMA said the exercise would begin from 0500 hours to 1600 hours in all communities.
The statement entreated all residents to clean their surroundings and distil drains in front of their houses and dispose of the refuse at designated spots for collection by the Assembly.
“We appeal to all companies and financial institutions to demonstrate their support for the exercise by donating cash and logistics. Individuals should also desist from dumping refuse at unauthorized places like beaches and drains,” the statement added.
The AMA further called on the leadership of all media organizations to use their channels to educate the populace on the importance of cleanliness.
