I have a mental erection. And it's bulging. I am scared because what hits my eyes is not fixed on a lady's body. I wish so but no. It's not. It's the energy crisis that hangs on every Ghanaian's neck.
When I wrote about the concept of Dumsornomics I am sure many of you read and had different reactions -- some laughed and said 'yeah gotta laugh some off'. Others could also relate and got a bigger frown.
But this time my erection irks my brain.
On Wednesday I got to the office with a crampled shirt. Thank Kwesi Twum for a generator for the office as I was able to look like a gentleman post 6 am that day.
I grabbed my recorder at half past nine that morning and headed for the Volta Rver Authority headquarters. I was determined to get answers and walked in with fury.
I carried everyone's worry that we did not have light on my head as I stood in the elevator to the seventh floor of the building.
I walked into the office of the authority's Communications Manager, Sam Fletcher. I was told he was in a meeting by an official. I sat and waited. I must admit I was itching to stick the questions fast and directly without a care for Mr Ethics.
After 20 minutes he walked in and said 'Francis I am ready for you'. At last time for action.
After 8 minutes I could push no more.
The facts were bare.
Unreliable gas from Nigeria and dwindling water levels. That's the cause of the intensified load shedding.
My erection began after I stepped out of his office.
Gas is the cheapest option available for Ghana in meeting our energy demands.
Crude oil means 3 million dollars will have to be spent everyday to power our plants.
In all of this, families will struggle to cope. Businesses will have to readjust.
What's for certain is that the short term will be fixed. It will come at a cost. A huge one.
I remember someone tell me 'the energy crisis is not John Mahama's fault. It's a long standing problem of poor planning'.
As a nation we have to admit that we have failed to plan and think beyond the short term.
Fire fighting has become the standard quality governments since 1992 have possessed. Long term planning is a myth for Ghanaian leaders.
Listowel Bukarson always says this at the end of all his comments. Think unconventionally.
I think it's a difficult brain activity to carry out.
But please leaders you are in these positions because you have promised to blaze the trail. It's a lonely place we know. But someone has to do it.
Power producers fix the crisis. -- you have the competence too.
Energy Minister fix the crisis. You have been appointed to and that's what we all expect of you.
President Mahama the time to fix the energy crisis is now.
The bulge still hurts and my eyes just got watery. I publish this article as my battery is almost dead.
But please the greeting remains: Dumsornomics, respond Dark and Lovely.
