Kwesi Semenu, 30, farmer, has appeared before a Hohoe Circuit Court charged with possession of 5.7 kilogrammes of Indian Hemp, popularly known as “ wee”.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was ordered to re-appear on February 6, this year.
ASP. Mr B.Y Dadzie, prosecuting, told the Court presided over by Mr Edward K.B. Apenkwah, that a Police Task Force, known as the “Hawks”, intercepted a taxi carrying a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be “wee” at Gbi-Kledjo at about 0830 hours on August 7, 2008, on the Kpeve-Hohoe-Jasikan Highway.
He said Semenu, the only passenger on board the taxi, alleged that the sack-load of the stuff was given to him by one Rasta alias “Bob cedi” at Brewaniase to be delivered to one Rose Alai at Gbi-Wegbe.
Mr Dadzie said Semenu on August 13, 2008, failed to identify Rasta when he was escorted to Brewaniase by policemen, while Rose denied knowledge of the consignment.
He said forensic tests on the stuff at the Police Crime Laboratory in Accra proved positive for “wee”.
