Police Superintendent Charles Domanban, Brong Ahafo Regional Crime Officer, on Tuesday appealed to the public to always report matters of crime to police including missing persons.
He explained that this would enable the police to act quickly to arrest the culprits.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani, the Crime Officer described recent media reports in Sunyani Municipality that six people had been missing at Atronie near Sunyani as misinformation.
He said investigations conducted by the police had revealed that since the beginning of this year, only one person, Opanin Kofi Nti (a.k.a Koonti) aged 87, had been reported missing.
Mr Domanban explained that on January 15 this year one James Boakye Dankwa of Atronie reported to the police in Sunyani that his father, Opanin Nti, who left home at 0900 hours on January 13 for the Atronie forest to harvest rattan to make cane basket had disappeared.
A search party made up of chiefs, elders, unit committee members and the assemblyman for the community fruitlessly combed the forest but to no avail.
He said the police on February 26 met the chiefs, elders and opinion leaders of the town but they declared that they were only aware of Opanin Nti missing.
The crime officer urged the people, especially reporters of the local FM radio stations to contact the police on sensitive matters.
