The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFHHS) has released a list of the 500 finest football clubs in the world based on their performance in competitive games from 1 January, 2014 to 31 December, 2014 but no Ghanaian club was rated.
Real Madrid beat the 2013 highest ranked team, Bayern Munich by gaining 381 points for their splendid performance which won them the UEFA Champions League, the Copa Del Rey, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
The highest ranked team in Africa was Setif for winning the CAF Champions League, but the Algerian giant came 92 in the World.
Ghanaian clubs were conspicuously missing due to their poor performance in the period under review. All the four Ghanaian clubs that played in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup in 2014 couldn’t progress to the group stage and the worst of it was that the Ghana league champions, Kotoko were knocked out at the preliminary stage of the elite African club competition.
In addition, King Faisal’s court action against the Ghana FA also contributed to the inability of Ghanaian clubs to make the list. The Ghana Premier League (GPL) has been in hibernation since June 2014 because relegated King Faisal placed an injunction on the GFA congress that ushers in every league season, hence made it impossible for the league to start.
The Ghana Premier League will commence for the very first since June 2014 on 18 January, 2015 at the various centres.
