Spiritual songs are often stringed on few words set on repeat, gifted gospel writers will tell you. Ask angels – the whole bunch of them are singing ‘Holy, holy, holy’ – boring?
No, it is inspiring.
And that is what Em’praise Inc did with this song on a recently released album. The album was released last quarter of 2014 at a live worship concert in Accra
‘Oguamma se ayeyi’ meaning ‘the Lamb of God deserves worship’. It is a worship song that gets you to focus on the amazing work finished by Jesus Christ on the cross. The new song is blended with two popular old songs.
Good song for morning worship or when you are driving to work.
And to help the song sink in, some great instruments play to wash down the simple but spiritually-loaded implications of say “the Lamb of God deserves to praise”.
A cream of Pentecostals are pushing and leading the church into a contemporariness which is really refreshing. Pentecostals make great songs but quite unconcerned at promoting it to a wider audience.

They sing it in church. But when Cindy Thompson broke out with that epic album in 2000, the nation got a sense of real gospel music birthed in prayer and inspired by the Holy Spirit.
And that is what Em’praise is trying to do.
The male and female lead singers blended very well. The unsung heros of the song – the choir itself did great work modulating the song.
Many choirs are trying to take up and build on the trail blazed by Joyful Way Incorporated. Marketing choirs is not very straight forward as a single artiste.
Often there are no names or big personalities to sell the group. People often jump at personalities not so much to groups.
So it won’t be easy. But if the group keeps the focus on singing real gospel song, they can leave their reputation to those who are looking for God through music not looking for fun through entertainment.
The choir struggled to end the song, you would think. Some African-American style of dragging out a song and doing some freestyle on the tail end that I sometimes think is over-elaborate.
Em’praise is not a nationwide sensation – yet. But if you go to the National Theatre between July and August, you would find a great team of young professionals who although make money in corporate offices full-time, know that their real calling is - gospel music.
