Ghana striker Isaac Boakye will be playing in the German top flight next season after FC Nurnberg were promoted by beating Energie Cottbus 2-0 on Sunday and winning the two-leg promotion/relegation playoff 5-0 on aggregate.
The 27-year-old played for the newly crowned Bundesliga champion Wolfsburg, but was a flop and opted to join the second-tier side.
Christian Eigler fired an unstoppable shot from 22 metres on 29 minutes before Slovak Marek Mintal added a second eight minutes later to hand Nurnberg an immediate return to the top flight after relegation last season.
Nurnberg, a nine-time German champion, join Freiburg and Mainz 05 to have won automatic promotion as the top two finishers.
Around 15,000 fans spilled onto the pitch after the final whistle with another 30,000 in the stands of the Franken stadion on a sunny afternoon singing the club's song "The legend lives."
