Motivation is an important word for Ghana’s current generation of young people. We know what we must do, but not really why we must do it.
We know it is awful to be negative, pessimistic, fearful, defeated or deflated but very often we lose sight of why we must not remain the above.
How do we recover?
Simple – a word of motivation is as potent as vitamin C is recommended for healthy bodies and recovering patients.
And everybody is recovering from something, aren’t we? Recovering from a setback on the job, on a dream. Recovering from a bad relationship a bad investment or a bad debt.
Everybody needs some motivation. And if it is short, concise, witty, funny and served early in the morning or preserved later in a book, that you be a great little capsule wouldn’t it?
Exactly what Kojo Yankson’s new book is about.
In 67 story-doses, the host of Joy FM’s Super Morning Show tries to apply the surgeon’s hot plates in life’s emergency room to cold bare chest to fire up some energy into your day.
So add it to your bible or Quran and find strength in the knowledge that
The message of Motivation is a riveting collection of old truths packaged in remarkably great contemporary writing style and sense.
You would know most of them but Kojo makes it suddenly dawn on you. The book slashes off the slimy fat of inertia that has gathered around your heart to draw you back from ‘taking that step’.
Take ‘ It’s a trap’ for example. We know we should be concerned about each other’s welfare, but by some cold 21st logic, we are very often feel justified and captivated in focusing on our own narrow interests and problems.
Until the farmer’s wife gets sick and kills the care-free chicken for soup, sacrifices the unperturbed pig and finally kills the clueless cow for his dead wife’s funeral.
The mouse’s warning to these three domestic animals has been vindicated. Your apathy could be your death warrant.
Well, that was one of many favourites.
So this review is that mouse warning you warmly that your apathy in getting a copy of this great book could be your own undoing.
