The opposition National Democratic Congress has sounded a warning that it will prosecute all those in government involved in wasting the taxpayers' money in the name One Village One Dam (1V1D) project.
Communications Director of the party, Sammy Gyamfi said they will prosecute the Special Initiatives Minister, Hawa Koomson and others for failing to fulfil the government's promise.
Speaking at the NDC's Moment of Truth press conference, Wednesday, he explained that the 1V1D projects championed by Madam Koomson's Ministry have let the northern communities in the country down by constructing 'substandard excavated ponds' rather than 'proper small-scale irrigation dams'.
“We believe that it would have been the more prudent and judicious use of the taxpayers' money if government had channelled the huge resources wasted on these substandard and meaningless excavated ponds into proper small-scale irrigation dams like the ones being constructed by JICA,” he said.
He additionally claimed that the 1V1D flagship projects by the government “constitutes a huge financial loss to the state.”
“To this end, we wish to sound a strong caution to the likes of Madam Hawa Koomson and others that they stand as good candidates for prosecution for the offence of willfully causing financial loss to the state when power changes hands,” he said.
