The Met Gala will not be taking place on the first Monday in May this year.
Anna Wintour announced on Monday that in light of the coronavirus pandemic, the much-anticipated opening of the Costume Institute’s “About Time” exhibit — and its accompanying star-studded red carpet — will be postponed indefinitely.
“Due to the unavoidable and responsible decision by the Metropolitan Museum to close its doors, ‘About Time,’ and the opening night gala, will be postponed to a later date,” Wintour, who has served as the chairwoman of the event since 1995, wrote in her latest Vogue editor’s letter.
“In the meantime, we will give you a preview of this extraordinary exhibition in our forthcoming May issue.”

In the same note, the iconic editor also endorsed Joe Biden for president and said she has been “appalled” by how President Donald Trump has handled the pandemic.
Previously scheduled to take place on May 4, this year’s event was set to be hosted by Meryl Streep, Emma Stone and Lin-Manuel Miranda, with Louis Vuitton underwriting the gala.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art also announced that its doors will be closed through April 4, with larger programs and events postponed or cancelled through May 15.
