Scientists from the West African Post Graduate College of Medical Laboratory Science have offered to provide free rapid screening to Ghanaians to supplement government’s effort in the fight against coronavirus.
In an interview with JoyNews, the Executive Council Member, Ben Mensah indicated that the virus may worsen before it gets better but early detection of carriers will make it easier for the virus to be contained in the country.
“We are looking at testing communities. So after screening if people test positive, we can refer them to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) and KCCR,” he said.
According to him, Ghana has about four public health laboratories that can be equipped to do the molecular testing done by NMIMR and KCCR to quickly detect a recorded COVID-19 case.
The Executive Council Member observed that the outbreak is more focused on the Greater Accra Region sideling other parts of the country.
“We just heard that Burkina Faso recorded death from coronavirus so we must be concerned about the people crossing that border. What is the story up North?”
The Ghana Health Service on Thursday reported four new cases of coronavirus in the country, increasing confirmed cases to 11.
Currently, no death has been recorded from the cases which are all imported cases and the affected persons are all being managed in isolation.
