The Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah this afternoon held a press conference on Sunday ahead of the lockdown of some cities on the country.
The lockdown as announced by President Akufo-Addo will affect Kumasi, Accra and Tema where significant cases of the novel coronavirus have been recorded.
Delivering his fourth national televised address on the state’s anti-coronavirus strategy on Friday evening, President Nana Akufo-Addo said beginning from 1:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, the lockdown will restrict the movement people for a period of two weeks subject to review.
The directive, however, provides exemptions for essential service providers as people in the affected areas can only go out to get essential items such as food, conduct banking transactions or use the public toilet, among others.
A section of the public has raised concerns about some clarity needed on the enforcement of this development.
Therefore, the Minister for Information has scheduled a live press briefing at 1:00 pm today to respond to queries on the imposition of restrictions, announce protocols for enhanced COVID-19 testing and provide updates on the state of health for infected patients.
This address is geared to ensure adequate information shared to promote effective compliance by citizens and enforcers as the country races against time to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.
