The Tema Regional Criminal Investigative Department (CID) has arrested and charged seven persons for scrambling for money thrown away by robbers.
The police said the suspects were groping over an amount of ¢120,845 which was thrown away by one of the robbers whom they were pursuing.
According to a statement signed by the Acting Public Relations Officers, Chief Inspector Stella Dede Dzakpasu, three of the suspects, Richard Attoh alias Amartey, 30; Qaadir Bancey, 31; and Awudu Mohammed alias Vuga, 36; admitted that they took part in the scrambling and pocketing a total of ¢2,500 from the crime scene.
The remaining suspects are Sulemana Bancey, 62; Kwesi Hanson Smith, 66; Kabul Akuaku, 53 and David Nartey Daniels, 30.
On Thursday, April 23, 2020, the police responded to a robbery incident at the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) traffic light where two robbers on a motorbike immobilised the vehicle of their victim by firing at the tyres.
They took from the victims an amount of ¢123,345.00 in two polythene bags, which they had withdrawn from the bank.
One of the robbers was immediately shot by Police in an exchange of gunfire, while the other took to his heels.
He threw the bags of money on the street, as he was being pursued by the Police, in the heat of the exchange of gunfire.
Witnesses at the scene scrambled for the money and failed to return same, leaving the victim with an amount of ¢2,500 which was salvaged.
Chief Inspector Dzakpasu called on the general public who witnessed the incidence to provide more information to retrieve all the money robbed from the victim.
“The numbers to call are 191, 18555 and 0244287775,” she stated.
