Two persons who allegedly pulled a knife on a seamstress at Awudome at dawn in their bid to rob her have been remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court.
James Annan, a commercial motor rider (Okada) and Ebenezer Torto, a fisherman, have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and attempt to commit crime.
Torto is additionally facing a charge of carrying offensive weapon.
They have pleaded not guilty before the court, presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh. The two are expected to reappear on May 5.
Prosecuting, Inspector Eric Pobee told the court that Augustine Animwaah, the complainant, is a seamstress and on April 25, this year, at about 0430 hours, the accused persons met at T-Gardens at Chorkor and conspired to go on a stealing expedition.
He said on that same day, at about 0600 hours, the complainant, who is a resident of Awudome Estate, together with one Alice Jepodoh, were walking to work at North Kaneshie.
Inspector Pobee said on reaching a place close to Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church in Awudome, the accused persons, who were on a Royal Motor Bike with registration number M-20-GR 9695, suddenly stopped.
The prosecutor said Torto, the pillion rider alighted and quickly pulled a knife, which was concealed in his shorts on the complainant and he demanded her mobile phone and money.
Inspector Pobee said the complainant, in her bid to run for her life, fell down and Torto continued to harass her while on the ground with the knife.
Prosecution said the complainant and her friend Alice then shouted for help, which attracted people and two other police officers to the scene.
Inspector Pobee said the two police officers arrested the accused persons together with the exhibits to the Kaneshie Police Station for further investigations.
He said the accused persons admitted the offence in their respective cautioned statements.
