The Ghana Rubber Estate Ltd (GREL) has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region to support the fight against Covid-19 in its host communities.
The PPEs include 190 boxes of gloves, 2,600 homemade masks, 70 boxes of surgical face masks, 30 pieces of 5 litres hand sanitizers, 37 dustbins, 136 of 5 stars washing soap, 100 pieces tissues and 93 Veronica buckets.
The items, which cost GH₵ 90,000 will be distributed to communities and other institutions in GRELs host communities to the Municipality's preparedness towards the coronavirus pandemic.
Presenting the items, the Corporate Affairs Manager of GREL, Perry Acheampong, noted that the country is in crisis and that there is the need for companies to support members of the communities within which they operate despite the challenges facing businesses.
"This donation will help ensure that residents and institutions of our host communities remain healthy after the pandemic"
Mr Acheampong also urged the public to adhere to the safety guidelines provided by the health authorities to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
Chief of lower Dixcove, Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX who received the donation on behalf of the communities was appreciative of the gesture by GREL especially in times where the rubber business is dwindling.
He, however, expressed worry over how people are ignorantly challenging the existence of the coronavirus in Ghana.
"I am so worried about some of the comment people make about this virus, as a traditional leader I can only ask them to be vigilant and start accepting the reality so we can fight this together," Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX said.
Member of Parliament for Ahanta West constituency, Lawyer Kojo Kum also advised the communities who would receive the PPEs to make good use of it.
