The Ahafo Region has recorded its first positive case of the Covid-19 after several suspect cases.
Since receiving an alert from the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service on the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic on May 12, 2020, the Regional Security Council (RESEC) and the Regional Public Health Emergency Management Committee have jointly implemented a range of preventive measures to stop a spread to the region.
Key among these measures is the inter-agency coordination, laboratory testing, case management, social mobilisation, risk communication, and enhanced port surveillance within the region.
The positive case under reference is that of a 20 year-old man who came from Obuasi in the Ashanti region where over 400 cases have been recorded.
The Ahafo Regional Director of Health, Dr. Boakye Boateng who confirmed the case to Adom News' Christian Ofori Kumah said the victim was in the region to visit relatives at Derma in the Tano South Municipality.
According to him, the Regional Health Directorate has begun contact tracing.
Dr. Boakye Boateng urged the residents to practice social distancing to prevent community spread.
Currently Ghana has confirmed 5,408 cases with 24 deaths.
