Entertainment journalist, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo has stated that an advice from the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is a quality one, but it came at a bad time.
Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in an interaction with dancehall act and president of BHIM nation, Stonebwoy on Instagram said he believes musicians should be able to diversify their revenue portfolio. But speaking on Showbiz Now on Joy Prime with Ibrahim Ben-Bako (IB), Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo questioned the timing of the advice.
Arnold applauded the minister for the advice, saying that he believes it is the best thing for any musician to do to be able to generate more income to plan a better life for themselves and their families. He however reiterated that he has a problem with where the advice is coming from.
Arnold also touched on how porous music distribution channels are in Ghana, raising a number of issues: 1. royalty payments are not effective 2. artists are making less or close to nothing from online streaming platforms 3. the fact that there aren’t enough event centers to be holding huge events where enough money can be made from the numbers that will attend, and 4. no laws protecting the intellectual property of musicians.
He went further to say the government should help put in place well-laid structures, backed by laws to support the music industry, adding that when all these are done, then the advice from the Information Minister will be relevant to the musicians.
