The Chief Executive Officer of the Security Warehouse Limited says President Akufo-Addo’s directive for churches and mosques to reopen but for an hour with only 100 congregants will be difficult to enforce.
Adam Bonah who was speaking on Joy FM’s NewsNite Monday indicated that unless the faith based organizations decide to obey, the enormity of the work will make it impossible for the police to implement the directive.
“I think the president might have said what he said, thinking that the churches and the mosques will obey but looking at the practicality of it, it is technically going to be very difficult.
“Especially when more than 100 officers who have tested positive for the virus and as of today about 36 of them have recovered,” he stated.
President Akufo-Addo in his 10th address to the nation on coronavirus gave churches and mosques the green light to reopen to their congregants but only for an hour for each service.
He further directed that such services must adhere to a mandatory one-metre rule of social distancing between congregants.
“An abridged format for religious services can commence. Twenty-five per cent attendance, with a maximum number of one 100 congregants, can worship at a time in church or at the mosque.
“In addition to the mandatory wearing of masks for all persons at all times in churches and mosques, a register of names and contact details of all worshippers and handwashing facilities and sanitisers must be provided,” the President said.
However, the CEO of Security Warehouse Ltd said it will be impossible to implement if a digital devise is not introduced to check the number of people who enter these gatherings.
He further urged citizens to assist the police to enforce the law by ensuring that the directives given by the President are adhered to.
“Citizens must be citizen vigilantes where we [police] do not have to go round churches and count if there are more than 100 people including the head pastor and his associate pastors,” he said.
