The Central Regional Police Command has arrested an independent Parliamentary Candidate of Assin South constituency, Joseph Kofi Damte for organising a political campaign rally without notifying the Command.
According to a statement signed by the Regional Public Affairs Unity, Deputy Supt Irene Serwaa Oppong, the act goes contrary to certain laws including Public Order, Criminal and other offences as well as Imposition of Restriction Act.
She indicated that Mr Damte and his participants at the said rally were not in facemask and did not observe the social distancing protocol.

Narrating what led to Mr Damte’s arrest, she said, on Monday, July 7, the Assin Divisional Police Command received information that parliamentary candidate had organised a political campaign rally at Assin Aworoso, a town in the constituency.
Although when they got to the scene the proggramme had ended, information gathered by the patrol team revealed that indeed such an activity had occurred.
“The Central Region CID has taken over the case for investigation into the matter. The suspect is in police custody assisting the investigation."
