Asante Kotoko have not decided on their participation in CAF Champions League, a board member, Alhaji Abu Lamine has revealed.
The Porcupine Warriors and their regional rivals, AshantiGold have been selected by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to represent the country in next season’s CAF inter-club competitions.
The decision was taken by the GFA Executive Council following the cancellation of the 2019-20 season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, Kotoko are yet to respond to the GFA. In an interview with Asempa FM, Monday, Abu Lamine explained the club’s delay in deciding whether to play or not.
“Two weeks ago we had a board meeting. Dr Kwame Kyei briefed us that we have a letter from GFA asking us to participate in Africa [CAF Champions League] and we need to respond to the letter. We decided that we should leave that to [Chief Executive Officer] Nana Yaw Amponsah to work on,” Alhaji Lamine said on Asempa FM
“When he finishes looking at things he will meet up with the technical bench to give updates on the state of things at the club. There he can tell if it will be good to play in the CAF competition or not.”
We will not rush on this. After talking to the technical team, they will bring the information to the board to decide if we can go or not. As we speak, I cannot tell you if we are going or not. We have to give Nana Yaw Amponsah time to work on this.”
Meanwhile, AshantiGold have decided to play in the CAF Confederation Cup.
