A senior lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana has said the manifestoes of incumbent governments must be given much attention.
Dr Isaac Owusu-Mensah explained that they have a better perspective of the country’s affairs hence are realistic with their policy-making towards elections.
“They have a better overview of the financial situation of the country and there when they are planning, they can tell where the money will come from,” he stated.
This comes after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) launched their 2020 manifesto, Saturday, August 22 at Cape Coast.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, he cited the promise of a one-term National Health Insurance by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) which they couldn’t do because it was implemented by the then, ruling NPP who proved it impossible.
“When you are in government and you come out with a manifesto, it will be taken seriously more than governments in opposition that only seek to attract votes.
"Therefore, in view of this, will try to come out with glorious which cannot be implemented at the end of the day
However, he applauded the government for informing the citizens of all the projects being undertaken across the country.
So far, the NPP is the only political party to have outdoored their manifesto for the upcoming elections in December.
