The Minority in Parliament has queried the government's motivation to charge $150 for the mandatory Covid-19 test at the airports.

They are seeking clarifications on what informed the decision to charge that amount.

This comes after President Nana Akufo-Addo announced the reopening of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) but with compulsory testing for travellers.

This is in a bid to reduce the risk and spread of the virus in the country.

Minority Spokesperson on Transport Kwame Agbodza stated that the amount is rather expensive.

He cited other countries that are charging less or nothing at all.

"No one is disputing the fact that we needed to take some safety protocols to open up the airport. The problem we have is, we want to know why Ghana is charging $150," he said.

Kwame quizzed why a private company is leading the testing.

"How was the company selected? Why was it not given t Noguchi so that they can build some capacity in terms of money so that they can offer better services?" he wanted to know.

"The inability of government to come clean on this is worrying," he said.

Mr Agbodza told Joy News government must come clean on what exactly went into the charge.

He added his voice to a section of the public who have criticised the cost of the test mandated by government.

So far, a total of $37,050 has been generated from Covid-19 testing of travellers coming into Ghana since the reopening of KIA on September 1.
