Electoral Commission (EC) chair Jean Mensa says stringent systems have been put in place to ensure that the December polls cannot be manipulated.
Speaking under the launch of the Church of Pentecost’s “2020 Agent of Peace” campaign on Sunday, she announced that the systems are such that results cannot be meddled with.
“We no doubt built some transparency and accountability in our processes, and we believe the level of transparency will help to promote peace before, during and after the election.
"What we haven’t done well under this area is to inform citizens of the political parties’ involvement in this process. As such, there is the tendency for citizens to believe the EC can manipulate the elections”.
She, therefore, implored all political parties to join hands in educating the general public on the operations and activities of the Commission.
Also speaking at the programme was the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, who noted that, for the EC to earn the trust and confidence of the populace, it is imperative to observe transparency in carrying out their responsibility.
"For an election to be viewed free, fair and transparent, all the processes in the chain, from voter registration to the declaration of electoral results play very key roles," he explained.
Meanwhile, in response to allegations by the major opposition party, National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) claims of an incredible voters’ register, the Electoral Commission says it has retrieved most of the missing names that were detected in the register.
The Commission’s Director of Electoral Services, Dr Serebour Quaicoe told Joy FM the EC is left with 17,000 names more to completely rectify all identified anomalies.
